Returning to Gotham, Cassandra discovered not only had her adoptive family left on a year-long training trip without her but also Batman left a recently-cured Two-Face to protect the city in his stead. Despite this, Cain still retained the Batgirl persona&patrolled Gotham while staying at Wayne Manor under Alfred’s care. She gradually learned to read&write due to her attending ESL classes between her nightly activities; during one of these patrols, however, Deathstroke managed to inject her with a dose of his serum&influenced her to join him in a plan to form an army involving David Cain’s daughters. Under Slade’s order, she gained control of a part of the League of Assassins, killing Nyssa al Gul in the process. As leader of the League, she also, again under Wilson’s control, attempted to kill Supergirl&masterminded the escape of her father from prison. She was freed from the serum’s effects when Tim Drake injected her with an antiserum during a confrontation with the Teen Titans. Feeling partially responsible for what happened to her, Batman allowed Cain to return after a detoxification program&had her under strict curfew. Nightwing was not so accepting, regarding her with open hostility. When she seeked vengeance upon her father&Wilson, she had to do it secretly due to their mistrust but she was found out, resulting in her clashing with Dick&stealing the Batwing. The ordeal resulted in her being cleared from the suspicion of Wilson&her father’s influence&being officially adopted as Bruce’s daughter.

I had nobody by my side; what the fuck’s a friend to me? My old homies tellin’ lies; now they’re just the enemies.
Selina and Barbara, by Raf Marinetti.
As Batgirl, Barbara led a life of joy. When Joker paralyzed her, she became traumatized and depressed for a considerable time. After James, Jr. returned home, Babs told her father not to trust him because he’s a psycho. Along with Dick, she investigated the medicine James was using to reduce his psychopathic tendencies and discovered he’d reversed it to increase them. When Barb’s step-mother was attacked with toxim, Batman and Jim went after Joker while James kidnapped and tried to murder Oracle but Batman stopped him in time after Babs stabbed him through the eye. I just think it’s funny how it goes. Now my legs are useless, so apparent that it shows.
1965 Style, by Brandon Redenius.
Following Bruce’s public announcement about his intention to create a global team of Batmen, Tim visited Cassandra in Hong Kong, where she had been acting as an anonymous vigilante. He attempted to persuade her to return to Gotham now that things have returned to normal but she refused, saying that Stephanie needed the Batgirl role more than she did. No new bitches ‘cause we don’t feel that. Fuck a fake friend, where you real friends at?
Cass Cain, by Jet Amago.
One day after school, Stephanie attempted to surprise Tim with a visit. As she arrived, she caught a female classmate of his attempting to put the moves on him. Assuming again he was being unfaithful, Brown broke off ties with Drake and decided to put her attention elsewhere. Creating a homemade Robin costume, Brown snuck into the Batcave and demanded that Batman train her. Despite his past belief she was an inept crime fighter, Batman accepted her, put her through months of intense work, and made her a costume with the same modifications as Tim’s. As Robin, she patrolled and seemed like a capable replacement but she disobeyed orders, so Batman stripped her of the suit and told her she was done being a hero because he couldn’t trust her. In an effort to prove her worth, Brown stole one of his plans for dealing with the entirety of Gotham’s criminal underworld. Since this plan involved Matches Malone, it quickly spun out of control. The result was a citywide gang war in which Brown was captured by Black Mask, who tortured her to get info about Batman. Although she escaped and made her way to a clinic, she’d been severely injured and died in a hospital bed as Batman sat beside her. I was tryin’ to get it on my own. Workin’ all night, traffic on the way home.
