Wally West was one of the founding members of the Young Justice team. The Wall-man celebrated his sixteenth birthday with a “surprise” party at the cave but he had to spend it instead by transporting a heart for transplant across country. After giving up the hero life, he moved in with Artemis and they went to Stanford together. At the summit, West went to work, mischievously pulling the pins off the smoke grenades of a squad of ninjas and allowing Batgirl to take them down in their confusion. He wove in and out of combat, catching Artemis and bantered with her, telling her that he didn’t know whether to kiss her or to kill her for putting both of them through all this; she coyly told him to hold that thought until they’re alone and the pair separated to fend off the enemies. While he ran laps around the Brain, he was joined by Impulse, whom he gave his blessing to adopt his costume to continue the family tradition and become the next Kid Flash. Who would’ve thought that this was a sign? And that the death of Artemis from a previous episode (Failsafe) was ominous and came back to haunt us? It was brilliant but also deeply disheartening… Someday — we don’t know when, but someday… He’ll be back in a flash.
