Yangchen was a well-respected figure hailed for her wisdom, determination, and power. Although Air Nomads were perceived to be pacifistic, Yangchen was feared for her fierce willingness in doing whatever that was required to perform her duties as the Avatar. Due to her devotion, no threats of war occurred for an entire generation after her death. Kuruk was the Avatar after Yangchen; gifted but brash, Kuruk always preferred to “go with the flow.” Due to his pompous demeanor, Kuruk lost his fiancée, Ummi, to Koh the Face Stealer. Living in a world brought to peace by his predecessor’s tenacious efforts, Kuruk spent most of his days searching both the world for worthy opponents to challenge, usually for no other reason than for the fun of it. He also liked to show off grand displays of his bending ability to others, especially beautiful women. Kuruk airbent lotus tornadoes for young Air Nomad nuns, challenged random Fire Nation citizens to Agni Kai, and engaged in earth-lifting contests with people from the Earth Kingdom. His strength in sparring matches was considered legendary, with no bender being ever able to trump his skills. The world’s tranquility allowed him to step back from his responsibilities as the Avatar but his carefree lifestyle cost him dearly. Never having even the slightest thought of settling down, Kuruk carried on with his casual way of life ‘til the day he met his true love. At the New Moon Celebration, a festive meeting of the two Water Tribes, he met a woman named Ummi. Kuruk fell in love wat first sight but as they approached the altar on the night of their wedding, Ummi was pulled in by an unseen force. She had been lured to the spirit world by Koh to punish Kuruk for his past arrogance. Every year, on the anniversary of their wedding, Kuruk traveled to there in hopes of saving Ummi but failed on every occasion; his attempts made Koh hold a grudge ‘gainst the Avatar. Kuruk continued the search for his wife even after his death; after he received information on Ummi’s whereabouts during a brief encounter with Aang, he once again confronted Koh but couldn’t slay him ‘cause the spirit stole Ummi’s face.

Was pretty heartbroken when all the past Avatars “died.”
