サガット rose from a childhood of extreme poverty in Thailand, being constantly bullied by other boys from his village due to his abnormal height and lack of finances. After watching a small-time Muay Thai championship, he was motivated to practice the martial art. After extensive years of training, Sagat won the title of God of Muay Thai as a teenager and became a national hero. He defended his title from a fighter named Go Hibiki but his right eye was destroyed, causing the former champion to violently beat Hibiki to death in a fit of uncontrolled rage accidentally and that’s how his eyepatch came to be.
